2009 Evening Land Bourgogne Blanc!!

Seventy five percent of the fruit winemaker, Christophe Vial, uses fruit sourced from a twenty five year old vineyard in the village of St Romain. The balance of the fruit comes from a single vineyard in Meursault, the lieu dit Le Limozin, which was also planted twenty five years ago. All the fruit is handpicked, crushed and left to settle over night before racking to barrels for fermentation. A small portion of new oak is used with the balance coming from the more neutral second and third year barrels. All of the wine goes through malolactic fermentation to finish the process. The total production for the 2009 Bourgogne Blanc is 450 cases.

While on the palate, the addition of the portion of Meursault fruit to the blend provides richness and ripe fruit while the St Aubin adds vibrancy and crisp acidity. Overall, this Chardonnay impresses with luscious fruit and an elegant finish which feature the chalky minerallity the fruit sources are known for in these regions. There may be less expensive Bourgogne Blancs than the Evening Land 2009, but few represent better value.
