1999 Chateau Simard
Saint-Emilion
70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc
Saint-Emilion is one of the principal red wine areas of Bordeaux, numbered amongst the most distinguished wine growing regions in the world.  The primary grape varieties used are Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with relatively small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon also being used by some chateaux.  It is considered to be one of the absolute best places in the world to grow Merlot, and the wines are much more hearty and full-bodied than Merlot from much of the rest of the world.

Deep ruby/garnet color followed by classical aromas of ripe black cherries, sandy earth, tea leaf, violets, cigar box and cedar. A very pleasant essence of pasture land and horse stables begin to emerge as the wine sits in the glass.  Mouthcoating, supple and balanced on the palate with a lovely earthy, cherry laden finish.  Elegance and balance are the order of the day when describing this traditionally styled mature Saint-Emilion.  A perfect pair with wild game or beef dishes.
