Over a century old and situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Fuisse, Chateau Vitallis is one of the few “large” estates in the region. They cultivate a mere 26 acres of high quality vines. The estate was founded by the Dutron family in 1835 and has been run by Denis Dutron since 1981.   The estate is known for its old vines, some of which are over 65 years old. The average age is 35 years. The vineyards are situated on Southeast facing slopes at an altitude of 750 to 900 feet in the villages of Fuisse and Solutre.   They use traditional methods in the vineyards and and temperature-controlled cellar. The use of stainless steel vats assures a long cool fermentation and preservation of the fruit and aromas. His wines are regular medal winners in the many French competitions.

Sherlock’s Notes (Macon-Fuisse) 100% Chardonnay.  Pale straw color followed by aromas of Asian pear, golden apples and chalky earth.  On the palate there is nice viscosity yet remains fresh and light with an excellent mineral backbone.  Possibly just a hint of neutral oak to provide roundness.  Very clean, dry and lingering on the finish.

Sherlock’s Notes (Macon-Vinzelles) 100% Chardonnay.  Like the Fuisse, very pale straw color yet with slightly contrasting aromas of tropical fruits, honey suckle and chalky earth once again.  Very juicy with ripe orchard fruit notes and zesty acidity.  Clean, round, light and very refreshing on the finish.
